First Access – Whole Class Instrumental Lessons

What is First Access?

Originally known as the Wider Opportunities Programme, First Access is an instrumental programme for whole classes, learning to play musical instruments. Currently SMS provides First Access to children in KS2.

The National Music Plan for Music Education states that “every child … [should have] the opportunity to learn a musical instrument … through whole class ensemble teaching programmes … for a minimum of a term.”
